Wedding Rehearsal Dinner Games
The week of a wedding can be hectic, especially for the bride and groom, for the planners, and for the wedding party as well. There seem to be a million things to arrange, pick up, purchase, rent, and coordinate. And of course, the day of the rehearsal is by no means an exception! Therefore, it is important that the day be rounded off by a great dinner and some fun at the dinner party.
Many things enhance a wedding rehearsal dinner, and games are an excellent choice. Depending how many are in your rehearsal dinner, you can play games intended for a few or many people.
Games for a smaller group may include cards or board games. Talking games are great choice. Any game which is very verbal will be something that will allow everyone to get to know each other.
It is surprising how many people may not have gotten to know each other before the wedding. Sure, the bride and groom personally know each other’s families from visits to one or the other’s homes. But each side’s family has likely not had a chance to spend much time with the other’s family overall. For this reason, involving verbal games is ideal. What games are played at this dinner could be affected by where the wedding rehearsal dinner takes place.
If you have your dinner at a restaurant, call ahead and reserve a reception room. This ensures that your games will not only be permitted by the restaurant, but will also be a delight to your guests and not an annoyance to the other non-wedding guests at the restaurant.
If you choose to hold your wedding rehearsal dinner at a hall, church, or someone’s home, this could open up even more fun possibilities. Games which consume a bit more space, like charades, will be more easily accommodated in a larger space and in a less public place.
If the weather is nice you may opt to have your rehearsal dinner at a beach or other outdoor venue where outdoor games and activities are possible. While this may not be traditional, it can make for a fun time your guests will enjoy and remember as one of the most unique wedding reception dinners they have attended in their lifetimes.
Such outdoor activities can include things like sports (volleyball, for example), or a pre-dinner swim at the lake or pool. Very energetic activities like these usually require the rehearsal to take place earlier in the day.
As far as which games to play, again, the possibilities are endless. Keep in mind the type of people in the wedding party (such as age and lifestyle) when planning the activities and games for the day or night of the wedding rehearsal dinner.
Also try an early night cap or karaoke following the rehearsal. This releases the stress and exhaustion build up prior to a wedding. People appreciate unique and fun activities outside the official wedding ceremony itself.
