Wedding Weekend Activities

Weddings can be such a joy, and so many people take them too seriously. If you are planning your weekend, consider making the entire weekend a fun time for the bride, groom, family and friends to come together.

The weekend of the wedding is a great opportunity to also do things that take people’s minds off of how much work and pressure planning and preparing for (let alone traveling to) a wedding can cause. Here are some ideas.

If the wedding is on Friday, try having a barbeque during the day on Saturday or Sunday after church. Barbeques are a great time to let loose outside (weather permitting) and have a great time. Depending where you have a barbeque, different activities can also be planned.

Regardless of what you do, a barbeque is the perfect way for the families of both the bride and groom to get a new chance to bond and get to really know each other better. One thing that often is not considered by those planning weddings is how awkward or displaced a family member may feel who is not in the wedding party. These activities tend to make everyone more comfortable.

Another great schedule for a barbeque is to hold it on Friday or Saturday, and then have the wedding itself on Sunday, for example. This gives everyone a chance to have fun and not take themselves too seriously by the time the wedding itself rolls around.

Try holding a beach party if the weather is nice. Have swimming and volleyball and any other outdoor games and activities you can come up with. Fireworks can even add to the excitement. (Check with local authorities on permission for certain types of fireworks, of course.)

Other great weekend activities include things for the wedding party to do together. Photo shoots at various locations can be a fun time full of laughter. Have bubble gum bubble blowing contests, play a halfhearted game of kickball with brightly colored balls—all this in your wedding attire! This makes for great pictures especially if your photographer is creative.

If you do decide to make an adventure out of wedding photo ops, you’ll need to make sure the wedding attire is well-kept. This is true especially since some of the wedding garments, such as tuxedos, are most often rented. Another important consideration is having wedding attire photo shoots on the day of the wedding after the wedding. This way, if anything does get scuffed or marred during the photo shoot process, you will not be rushed to get it dry cleaned prior to the wedding itself.

No matter what you choose, the wedding weekend is the ideal time for fun and games to take place that will make yours a wedding to remember. Remember, weddings are special, but laughing and having a nice time is also very precious – especially when you are surrounded by loved ones, some of whom you don’t see often.
