DJ’s – at a Wedding Party

The DJ is the very soul of a party and more so at a wedding party. This is the guy who when the eating is over has to keep the guests dancing and enjoying themselves. There’s nothing more boring than sitting around with sorry music after the main meal. If the meal is the heart of the wedding the DJ and his music is the soul. When choosing a DJ, it’s important to keep a few tips in mind.

A responsible DJ must return calls or mails within 24 hours.

DJs must meet the client with a good, methodical and organized presentation of services offered.
Remember that the cheapest is not the best. Choosing a cheap DJ could mean inability to handle unusual situations, like having backup equipment or just amateurs who know the basics and not the quality needed for a wedding.

It is important to have at least some affinity with the DJ, to avoid a public relations disaster with a taciturn and disgruntled DJ and unhappy couple. The DJ must provide generous information on his product, perhaps with videos etc. and be amiable in answering all questions posed by the clients.
The DJ must have experience on weddings as DJs have their preferred work: Rave, club, weddings etc. Check the DJ’s previous experience with weddings.

DJ’s must have documented planners, copies of contracts, schedules, pricing and a list of references. Make sure to check up the references to avoid problems, issues, or concerns during the event, making sure he was a success.

Technically, the DJ must have a viewable music database, to get an idea of the kind of music available. DJ’s may or may not use music sheets. The client must be satisfied as to quantity, quality and variety of the music available. DJs must be able to choose music for the multifaceted guests present at weddings.

The equipment must be professional grade and not good quality home equipment, where presentation will not be good in the varying conditions of the reception area. Checkout the equipment at his studio and make sure he has backup.

Meeting the DJ after signing the contract to plan and discuss is important and a professional DJ should be flexible in accommodating changes.
It is important to know the DJ who will be actually at the event. The person one meets and discusses with must be the one at the show. This must be decided on before signing the contract and the DJ’s name must be on the contract.

Good DJs are irreplaceable, as they are responsible for the party atmosphere. In addition to managing the music, the DJ should also be multifaceted and have other qualities like: Party organizer, master of ceremonies, sound and light technician with professional equipment and large music inventory and an audience motivator. DJs should be able to read the crowd and choose music accordingly, follow the plan previously worked out with the client, be flexible to sudden changes, provide continuous and seamless music, be a good crowd motivator and most important be able to coordinate and coexist with other professionals at the event.

Remember that the DJ is the soul of the party.
