Every Man Should Have a Wedding Ring
In the western world, it is a known fact, that more women than men are actually likely to even wear a wedding ring. But the truth of the matter is, even if the man isn’t going to wear the ring all of the time, it is always best for a man to have one. When a man doesn’t wear a wedding ring, the reasons of safety and tradition are cited frequently by men when not wearing a wedding band and there are many women that will suggest suspicious motives for the male’s individual aversion of displaying evidence of his own martial status. In the event that a man doesn’t have a wedding ring, not only is he missing out on a very special part of his wedding but he is also missing out on a very special part of his marriage.
Based on history, women were a lot more likely to wear their wedding ring than men because they were known for working in industrial Britain with machinery. Today, men that work in factories are often banned from ever wearing a wedding ring because of safety reasons, and there are many men that are in other manual trades that choose to leave their wedding rings at home in order to avoid damaging their finger or the ring itself.
After the Second World War, it became increasingly popular for both the bride and the groom to wear a wedding ring at the wedding ceremony. However there are many men that may be following the precedent that was set by their fathers, still don’t choose to wear a wedding ring. Another major reason that men don’t choose to wear a wedding ring is because they don’t want their status to be defined by their jewelry. The exact same argument is used by a lot of women that take on “Ms” instead of “Mrs.” as their preferred form of address.
Women that make this decision are able to change if they decide to in the future, whereas men that choose to not have a wedding ring have truly missed the boat just as soon as the wedding ceremony is over. Purchasing a wedding ring later, even if it has to coincide with a diamond, gold, or silver anniversary is still going to be only second best to sharing wedding rings with one another during a wedding ceremony. Nowadays, the safety arguments doesn’t really smooth over to well with women because there are plenty of men that have the ability to take their wedding ring off before they depart for work or before performing a dangerous task at home.
No matter what your decision may be, remember the importance of having a wedding ring at your wedding ceremony. For all the women out there, inform your husband of how important wedding rings are to you, it may change your husband’s mind not to wear one.
