Everyone is familiar with traditional wedding cakes that have solemn and stern wife-and-husband to be standing right on the wedding cake’s top layer. Normally, the bride is dressed in white and the groom is dressed in a black tuxedo. Certainly, unless you truly look like “Ken and Barbie” you aren’t going to want this cake topper as a reflection of you and you soon to be husband. As an engaged couple fixing to join hands as one, you no longer are forced to conform to this particular stereotypical wedding couple. Today, the wedding cake topper is considered to be a welcome break from the tradition and if you would like, you could have your passion or life reflect to all of the guests at your reception to truly see.

More than likely, the modern change that has been the most significant has occurred as far as wedding cake toppers are concerned, is the wide variety of options that are available which reflect your ethnicity and culture. No longer do you have to worry about having a Caucasian topper for your wedding cake if you are indeed Asian. Today, there are African-American, Hispanic, Interracial and Jewish toppers for your wedding cake. If you are look for two guys or two girls, you can choose that as well because the sky is the limit today with cake toppers.

Is there a hobby or special interest that you are extremely passionate about? If you would like, you can reflect those things as a centerpiece at your reception. There have been hunting couple cake toppers, golf couples cake toppers, scuba couple cake topper, motorcycle couple cake topper, and snowboarder couple cake topper. The only thing that you need in order to find the cake topper that you want is your imagination. There are many suppliers that will take in special requests. So, you may want to consider comical cake toppers for your wedding cake. Some of the selections include Ball and Chain, Runaway Bride, Frankenstein Bride and Cold Feet Groom.

When it comes to cake toppers for wedding cakes, pretty much, everything and anything is possible. You may want something along the lines of Beauty and the Geek. All of these different types of wedding cake topers are really great conversation starters at your wedding reception and they have a tendency of showing that the couple is able to laugh together at themselves and not take the life thing so seriously.

Do you love animals? Does your partner think of you as his little panda or have you always thought of being a rabbit? If this is a sentiment that you would like to incorporate into your project, there are also several wedding cake toppers that are available. There are puppies and kittens and lady bug wedding cake toppers.

No matter what cake topper you choose, this is your special day and you can incorporate all of the meaning in it that you desire. Let your wedding day be as special as the feelings that you have for your husband.

As a bride, if your desires are to have your wedding cake make a different statement, and you sincerely desire to have a wedding cake at your special ceremony that will talk above your years by your quest, you may want to consider so consider using a unique wedding cake for your inspiration.

Blair Underwood, an actor, had very exceptional wedding cake that gave the word unique a whole different meaning at his wedding. The wedding cake was a model of Paris’s Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower was six and a half foot tall and it had real lights that traveled all the way up and down the cake tower. In the world today, this cake has to be the most unique cake in the entire world. One can really only imagine how great the amount of time and effort that was put into that cake.

There was even one couple that had a wedding cake that was square and was accompanied by two swans swimming along in the pond located on top of the cake; everything was created with icing. This wedding cake was extremely elaborate, with flowers and ribbons highlighting each and every feature of the cake. However, this cake was one layer and there are many people that really don’t want a cake like this.

The “Shrek” cake is another unique cake. This cake is only for those die-hard shrek fans. The “Shrek” cake is all focused on the movie and it even includes Princess Fiona and Shrek figurines right at the top of the cake. The wedding cake had two different layers, on the layer beneath there was a design of the dragon and Donkey created with icing which was the other couple in all of the Shrek movies.

Box wedding cakes are also very unique. This doesn’t mean that the cake is shaped like a box, a cake of this nature can be a three layer cake with each layer decorated as a different present, and the cake even comes complete with bows. A cake of this nature can also be an elaborately decorated and shaped like an open box hat that has flowers gently easing out of it.

The Chinese wedding cake has to be among the most unique wedding cakes. It is a red cake that had three layers that has been decorated with flowers and intricate details. The Wedding cake based on Phantom of the Opera is another really strange wedding cake that is a single layer, and consists of black, white and red icing with a white mask sitting right on top of the black icing and the “cloth” or red icing is draped over the mask.

If you are looking for another unique wedding cake, you may want to make a wedding cake made out of cupcakes in which, all you need to do is get a cupcake tree and then bake cupcake to fill it completely. All-in-all, your wedding cake can be as elaborate as you want it to be and it is entirely up to you what theme or design your wedding cake is done in, the uniqueness of a wedding cake is what matters the most.

Wedding cakes though always present have often been symbolic and not made for really enjoying eating them. Today there are specialty shops just for wedding cakes where one can choose the frosting, filling and the decoration. Wedding cakes have become admirable in addition to an edible art form. The age old two or more round stacked tiers are no longer the norm. Imagination and innovation have created round, square, triangle, hearts or any other shape in cakes. In addition they have been sculpted to make them into ships, city landmarks, flower baskets, musical instruments or anything one can dream off. They can be decorated with colored ribbons, fresh fruits and flowers in addition to icing and marzipan.

The cake can be made to coordinate with the event. This can include styles, colors and shapes. The cake must stand out in addition to blending with the event and not be a glaring gaudy item. The baker can be given fabric samples so that the cake can be blended with the design and similar colors used in its decoration.

Flavor is personal and is a difficult issue to tackle. A multi-flavored, layered cake solves this. Another would be to have each cake a different flavor, like chocolate, carrot, yellow cake etc. Cakes could be also made with filling so that it is more flavorful and richer. Fillings can be mocha, strawberry, chocolate etc.

The wedding cake can serve as the dessert or can be in addition to the dessert as there is no hard and fast rule. Today, the wedding cake is the primary dessert.

When economy calls, a smaller cake is displayed and a sheet cake in the same flavor is served from behind the scenes after the display cake is taken away. Sheet cakes yield more-or-less 40 servings. Individual cakes scan also be served. Large cakes that double as center pieces can also be used and the economy on flowers will be big.

When ordering a cake, keep these tips in mind.

The cake must be freshly baked and not frozen for a better taste.

Always sample the ordered cake. Cakes prices are based per person and usually cost $3-$4 per person though sophisticated cakes will be much more.
Make sure the baker will deliver on the wedding day and if any delivery charges are charged.

It is not necessary to buy the cake from the banqueter but make sure this is so.

Make sure the cake can stand the uncertainty of the weather especially in outdoor events.

Fresh flowers must be pesticide free and the florist and baker must coordinate on the actual decorating.

A groom’s traditional cake was made with brandied fruit etc. It can be shaped like his football or tux or drums, depending on his interests.

Groom’s cake customs differ though often served at rehearsal dinners. It could be a second choice at the reception or cut up and given to guests to take home after the event.

Grooms cakes are no longer popular today. Each couple decides what traditions they wish to maintain for their own wedding cake or cakes.

Have you ever noticed that at weddings people tend to relax and talk a lot more at the food tables? There is something very comforting about the food tables and more often than not, food has helped break the ice so to speak. Food can be laid out in so many ways but edible centerpieces are very in these days. The sight of a mouthwatering edible centerpiece just at the entrance to the reception will help guests relax.

Edible centerpieces are the bride’s way of extending a warm welcome to all her guests. By making the guests feel welcome and relaxed she ensures that everyone has a good time. After all it’s her big day. She builds the décor on more than just a visual level – she builds it on taste, smell and touch.

There is something to be said about the smell of fresh warm bread and who can say no to a visual treat that is edible. Get the caterer to keep a basket of hot breads ready on the table just as the guests start coming in and they will be attracted to the attractive centerpiece. Edible centerpieces do just that – they tempt the guest to enjoy the flavors and texture of all that food has to offer.

There are some specialties that go towards making the reception a memorable one.

Cookie bouquets are one such way. Chefs will stack up cookies on a stick and they can come up with some innovative designs on them too. Your cookie bouquets can be then placed on the tables by your reception coordinator or someone from the bridal party. Keep in mind that this is not cheap but it’s not expensive either. Cookie bouquets don’t go very well with elegant weddings but they are fun and children love them so that would make it worth the effort.

Next is chilled wine. A centerpiece can be made very pleasing by adding a nice stylish wine bucket with a bottle of wine tucked into it. But innovation is the key to success and if wine buckets are too expensive then collect some ice-cream tubs and decorate them in beautiful gift wrapping paper to make new wine buckets which makes for a really inexpensive idea. Your centerpiece can be emphasized with wedding favors with a wine theme which will convey gratitude and love together.

Then you have the option of a cheese board where you can place a platter of crackers, fresh fruit and cheese done up as an attractive centerpieces and placed on every table. Or you could try a tower of truffles. These make a very nice centerpiece and it’s very inviting. Keep decorative favor packaging material handy incase your guests want to take something home.

So as you can see there are a lot of possibilities for edible centerpieces and you can really let your imagination run loose on this one. Stick to your wedding theme and style and you cannot go wrong with edible centerpieces. All you need is creativity and an ability to just have some fun.

Getting married means two people now decide to live together as a family. Getting married also means that you now have a wedding to plan and get off the ground. Planning a wedding is not as easy as it seems. There are lots of things that have to be done and there are some who take a year or two to prepare for the wedding. The entire process of setting up a wedding means there are choices to be made and things to be decided to mutual satisfaction. You could hire a wedding consultant to take care of the nitty gritty details but that does not take away your participation in the planning process.

Most couples will hire a caterer and leave the food aspect to them. They will be party to only the bigger decisions to be made like the dress and the venue, the cake and the guest list, the gift registry and the dates. But most couples do not realize that the menu selected for the reception can play a big part in the overall success of the wedding.

What most people do not realize is that while there are some food choices that would be very appropriate for a wedding reception there are also some choices that would be absolutely wrong. Yes, it is true that not all food is appropriate for receptions.

Weddings are unique in their own ways. The guest list is always the one thing that makes your wedding different from another’s. All families are different and some come from culturally different backgrounds. Now if your friends and family circle has a diverse mix of people from different cultures then the menu you decide on must cater to these people’s tastes too. It should not be that your choice of food is inappropriate for some cultures and so they are not going to be able to eat. For example if your guest list has people from the Jewish community then pork is a no-no. Similarly there is no point on having a non-vegetarian menu if even one-third of your guests is vegetarian.

If you do serve meat then make sure it is not some wild game meat which may not be quite welcome so ensure that you select the right kind of meat. Alcohol is yet another area where if your guests have very religious views then they may not be comfortable with the concept of drinking at the wedding. You may have non-drinkers and you may have those who are off the wagon and the drinks at your wedding may get them back where they started.

Think about this, you serve onions and garlic laden food at your reception and your guests come kiss you as a mark of their affection with garlic on their breath. Oh no! That would not be very nice so remember to avoid food that could cause bad breath.

And last but not the least, decide how many courses you plan to serve. Just one or two may not be difficult to handle but if you are planning on many courses then ensure that the first courses are light foods so that everyone is not stuffed by the time the other courses are served.

Most newly married couples have a large wedding cake at their reception. There are many advantages and disadvantages to this custom. There are other options that the couple can choose rather than having the typical wedding cake with all its expense and sugar.

Traditionally, wedding cakes are made by a professional who delivers the cake to the place where the reception will take place. Many wedding cakes have fallen before they ever reached their destination. What a waste of time and money to have that happen and what a terrible disappointment to the couple and their guests.

Wedding cakes are usually very expensive and there are so many choices of color and type of cake and frosting that even something as seemingly simple as choosing your wedding cake can be a very real source of frustration and stress between the two people planning their wedding.

Then there is the concern for the guests. Are there guests who are allergic to chocolate? How many guests are diabetic and cannot share in the wedding cake because they cannot have the sugar?

Also, trying to figure out how large a cake is needed adds to the stress of all the wedding plans. How many guests will either not want cake or will eat more than their share and will the cake run out before all the guests have had their piece of cake?

How can the couple or their wedding planner avoid all this and still have a successful wedding reception? Are there other options that could eliminate or at least lower the expense of the cake and all the frustration?

What about having 2 smaller cakes, one with sugar and one without sugar? What about having cupcakes instead? Or perhaps having cupcakes for the children and a smaller cake for the rest of the guests would work out better.

It probably could save some money having cupcakes and a smaller cake. It would also give you more choices about who could do the baking. You probably have friends who would love to feel more involved in the preparations for your wedding and reception. They would feel honored to make cupcakes for your reception.

Something you could have done that would be more personal would be to have cupcakes made with the initials of the bride and groom on them. If you have a spring wedding, the colors of frosting could be all in spring colors, like yellow and pink and lavender.

Perhaps a little prize could be baked right inside some of them or a slip of paper telling the guest to sing a song or make a special toast to the bride and groom.

Many wedding planners know that the reception meal is one of the most important aspects that need to be not only perfectly executed, but picture-perfect as well. A common approach is to have a buffet, where everyone lines up at the buffet table and awaits their turn to dig in to the array of wonderful dishes prepared for this special day.

The problem with buffet style meals is that it seems to take forever to get everyone through the line, and many people such as the elderly or those with health problems may have trouble standing in line for long periods at a time.

A solution many people take advantage of is to have each table released one at a time, so that everyone gets to relax until it is their time to fill his or her plate. This seems to work very well.

But in what order do you release the tables, and who does it? One choice is to have one of the wedding ushers take care of this. They can go one at a time to tables and permit them to approach the buffet. Once a group has finished, the usher releases another table. The order of the tables released can be totally random, or it can be pre-planned.

As far as the order of tables, first of all, there is usually assigned seating of some kind. Often the bride’s family will sit on one side of the reception area and the groom’s family on the other. You may have an usher on each side releasing one table from each end. This is the most polite way to handle the releasing of tables if the seating is assigned in this manner.

If there is no arrangement to the seating, another approach to release tables is to number them (with small signs printed with a professional look, using cardstock, placed in the center of each table). Using this method, you simply have someone announce table numbers one at a time. This is a bit less classy, but can be effective.

If you find the announcement of table numbers to be disruptive, you can simply ask each table to watch the table in front of them (and then to their left, if beginning on the left side). When that table has returned to their seats, the next table releases themselves.

Another issue to consider is what people do while they wait in their seats for their table’s turn. Games and such may be inappropriate (but are an option, depending how informal a reception you are aiming for). Another option is to have snacks brought out to the table, like finger foods, and such.

At the end of the day, it’s up to you how you handle the buffet activities at your wedding. One thing that is clear is that buffet style receptions are a favorite of wedding attendants, verses a pre-planned meal with only one or two entrées.

Wedding favors are a great gesture to put a smile on the face of your guests. What better way to bring on that smile than something edible!

For example, there are candies and special chocolates you can put together in small baskets. You can also buy a pre-sorted selection of fine chocolates in special packaging and add a little tag with the name of the bride and groom on the container. Even though the gift is edible, the container is something they can keep and put small things in as a memento of your special day and the union of you and the love of your life.

It is hard to find wedding favors these days that are not overpriced. That’s why you can get creative and put together an edible wedding favor and a container for only a dollar or two per guest. There are many sites online that specialize in wedding favors, or you can just put it together yourself from ordinary items found at an online or local shop.

Whatever you choose, it is the thought that counts at the end of the day. An edible wedding favor is something you can be sure won’t go to waste. Even if a certain guest is, say, allergic to chocolate, they can still give their wedding favor to a friend or family member! It won’t take long to find someone who isn’t allergic who loves chocolate! Almost everyone does!

With the wrapping, you can buy custom prints that reflect the color and theme of your wedding to give people a warm feeling just looking at it. Make it special and make it your own. Make it something that will always be memorable for every single wedding attendee.

Cookies, candy, dried fruit, nuts, and other snacks and goodies can make your guests happy, too. Remember, there is no wrong way to show your creativity, and the more you reflect you and your spouse-to-be, the more people will be just tickled when they receive the wedding favor. So no matter what, there is no need to spend a lot—the simplest wedding favors are often the most appreciated and don’t have to break the bank, in terms of your overall wedding budget plan.

Other things you can easily put together are tins and baskets sausage and cheese, or fruit baskets with bows and pastel cellophane. The possibilities are endless and are only limited to your inspiration and imagination.

If you do decide to “get crafty” and put together the wedding favors from scratch, it might be a good idea to get a friend or family member’s help with the project. Ask someone to get the supplies, and another to help you put it together. It could be a good excuse for the bride and bridesmaids to spend special time together in the days or weeks leading up to that special day.

Regardless, your wedding guests will walk a way with a sweet taste in their mouths!
